The Victorian Coalition Government will fix the Wedge Road intersection in Carrum Downs, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Gary Blackwood and Member for Carrum Donna Bauer announced today.
Mr Blackwood, representing Minister for Roads Terry Mulder, visited Carrum Downs to announce $8.2 million in funding for the installation of traffic lights at the notorious intersection of Frankston-Dandenong Road, Boundary Road and Wedge Road.
“In the last five years, we have seen 17 casualty crashes involving vehicles travelling through the intersection, including seven serious injury crashes,” Mr Blackwood said.
“This project is part of the Coalition Government’s plan to build stronger, local communities.
“The installation of traffic lights and additional approach lanes on the Boundary Road and Wedge Road legs of the intersection will benefit local amenity.”
Ms Bauer said today’s announcement is great news for the thousands of commuters that use this intersection each day.
“I visited this site earlier in the year with the Minister for Roads to highlight safety and congestion concerns, and here we are only a few weeks later announcing that the Coalition Government will fix this intersection,” Ms Bauer said.
“This announcement is further proof that the Coalition Government is committed to relieving congestion and improving safety for people in the Carrum electorate.
“I am thrilled that I have been able to secure funding for this project for my community.”
Mr Blackwood said funding for traffic signals at the Wedge Road intersection will be included in the upcoming Victorian Budget.
